Travel Pillows

I made a travel pillow for my daughters friend a few months ago and loved it so much that I will probably be making them for any party they go to for the next little while.

Who doesn't want a personalized pillow with a handle and a pocket for books and toys.

I would!

pinterest overload

WOW, it's been a while!

I find less and less time to blog now-a-days. That and I have been swamped with orders. My guess is that it's because of the new LDS primary theme being CTR this year.

Anyway, let me run through the long list of projects that Pinterest basically handed to me and said "Here. Make this."

I made these night owls for a girl party for my daughter. They are filled with rice and you pop them in the microwave and heat them up to keep you warm at night, or keep them in the fridge to put on an owie!

These candy cane mice were for all the kids in my son and daughters classes at school this year. Adorable and no sewing required!

My oldest is in 3rd grade and for school they had to make a valentine box with their parents. This was our end result.

The next few pictures are the kids valentines this year. Macie had a Valentine gun and holster with gum.

Connor's are Army guy Valentines that I LOVE!!

And I helped Ellie make friendship bracelets for her class. I love all the options out there now for sugar free Valentines.

little gnome

For Sawyers first time trick or treating I decided he needed a new costume!

It needed to be simple and comfy, so I made this gnome costume that I have to say I kinda adore on him!

Those curls coming out from under his hat kill me.

I knew he wouldn't keep a strap-on beard on his face at all and I found a infant gnome costume online a few months ago that had the beard sewn onto the onzie and I loved that idea.

He loved the attention we gave him when he put the hat on so he actually wore it all night to a school carnival and at our ward party last night.

Camp Flag

I am the Young Women's president in my ward at church and girls camp is something that I have always looked forward to. As a teenager it was one of my favorite parts about summer.

Some things have changed since I was a young woman at camp and now each ward is in charge of making their own banner or flag.

Fun! So I got all excited when I found out that this years theme is the 13th article of faith, specifically "We seek after these things" and it was a PIRATE THEME!!

I enlisted the help of my uber talented mother who was the artist behind it all and we worked out a design.

We went with 3 girls, all piratey and in the cabins color.

They are seeking their treasure which includes
scriptures and the temple.

I made sure to sew on the name of our ward and at the top I used our color's bandanna to make tie tabs so it can be adjusted to whatever it is hung on.

I love it! And I think the girls will to.

I heart girls camp.

Crap to Craft~ shabby apple inspired skirt

Ok, first off I have to explain that this project DID NOT start off as "Crap" that's just the name of my refashion posts. We got that straightened out? Great, In fact, this project actually started out as a beautiful dress.

A beautiful dress given to me by my sweet friend Tiffany who made it a little small so she mistakenly thought that I was small enough to fit into it.

Not the case.

I apparently have what some would call Swimmers Shoulders and couldn't even put my arms through.

I didn't want this beautiful fabric to go to waste and I remembered this beautiful skirt I saw over at Shabby Apple and I had to make it!!

I cut the top off the dress. I totally reshaped the bottom turning it into a pencil skirt and....believe it or not....put in MY VERY FIRST ZIPPER!!!!

I can not tell you how excited I was. I have been sewing for about 6 years and have always been afraid of zippers till now. Dumb. I have missed out on a world of possibilities.

So this is the finished project:

I think I am in love!

Pretty darn close to the one at Shabby Apple and custom fit to my rear.

More zippered skirts are in my future. Love. LOVE them.

Crap to Craft~ maternity shirt refashion

I have been organizing my closet and trying to downsize. So I came across a few shirts that I thought would be great to refashion into something for my girls. I was inspired by this adorable $40 skirt from JCrew.

I assure you this project does not even need a tutorial it is so self explanatory but here goes.

Oh, and because I despise doing tutorials this is the step I was on before I remembered to take a picture.

It was just a plain maternity Tee when I started out. I measured the length on my daughter to see where I wanted it to hit (plus a little over an inch for a casing) and cut the shirt straight across the top leaving the hem of the shirt as the bottom of the new skirt.

I grabbed some elastic and made a casing on the top of the shirt.

Wala....plain skirt done. But now I wanted to make it girly and nothing says girly better than ruffles. I didn't have any chiffon like the JCrew skirt used so I decided to skip it and just do the ruffles.

I cut one inch strips of fabric out of the rest of the shirt leftovers and sewed down the center with a long stitch and pulled the bobbin thread to make the ruffles

.I layed them where I wanted them...pinned and sewed them right on.

That's that!

I loved it so much that I grabbed another shirt...

and made one for my littlest daughter.

for baby

So I have been doing a bit of sewing the last few days. Thought I would cross another "gotta make this some day" thing off my list.

This baby blanket/play-mat is one I just finished.

Even though all the cutting took forever, this thing actually was really quick to put together.

I didn't find the exact background material that I wanted so I had to pick another. Besides the fact that it might make your eyes cross a little after a while I LOVE it.

To be honest, after I made it I kinda wanted to keep it for my own. :(

Great project, fun for a gift.

baptism towel

My daughter is turning 8 this year along with about 5 of her best girlfriends. One of them had a birthday last week and so I thought a baptism towel would be fitting.

I have had these towels in my "things to make" folder for so long I was actually really excited to get to start making some.

The poem that goes with it is so perfect and sweet. I have been gathering tonz of ideas for baptisms and can't wait till it's Ellie's turn.

I don't know what it is about monsters but boy do I LOVE them.I made this monster tooth pillow for my sons friend for his birthday. Every little boy needs a "boyish" tooth fairy pillow.Or just a super cool pillow that holds stuff in his mouth.
